![]() The Congo Free State / Belgian Congo is another example. For example, it was evident that British interest in expansion and consolidation in southern Africa was driven by the discovery of minerals, even though almost none of that revenue actually went to the Crown-it went to private companies like De Beers (and Consolidated Gold Fields, also Cecil Rhodes's baby) for them, empire was tremendously, even scandalously profitable. The state (colonial or imperial) did not control company outlays or reap their revenues, but only set up the spaces and policies under which they operated. But not necessarily profitable for the colonizer country itself. Like I said, they were often source of great personal gains. Overall lower population throughout the world and It's better distribution might also have something to do with it. There are a few occasions when there is a Steel/Iron/Coal shortage, but that again only last for max a decade, then the better techs solve that as well. But early game food stuff is in high demand, especially fish and cattle, that shifts towards the end of the game, when techs improve production and pops move to the New World. Like, in my mod things like the textile crash doesn't exist, neither is cotton or dyes are a luxury. I'm pretty sure there are only really wacky solutions for this, with very large and complicated event chains, and the result might be worse than just simply eliminating these issues by changing demand/production overall. Multiple rgos/province would enable the pops to shift production on a province level, avoiding this whole thing. The main problem is that rgo output is mainly depends on population, coupled with the 1 rgo/province thing, so you have this whole problem. Perhaps to change incentives, industry score should reflect value added rather than the # of people who are in factories.Īnyway this was just my rambling, it's still a fun game but I hate how this is always a problem. I think the main problem is how easy it is to generate huge volumes of cash, which allows every country to subsidise and grow industry even as it becomes more unprofitable. Not an attack on the developers they've come very close, and there's no easy fix. Furthermore, by the late game most basic/Middle manufactures like lumber, furniture, clothing etc are massively overproduced. This makes role playing an isolationist USA, Switzerland etc far more difficult. I hate that if you want a modern, late game industry you literally have to colonise Africa in order to get just a sliver of the rubber you need. Depending on the mod I'm using, there'll be chronic shortages of input good X, Y etc. 99% of the time, my factories run at 50% for lack of maintenance goods. Even if I have #1 prestige, I can never get enough goods. It's a valiant effort, but I hate how shortages cripple almost every industry from day 1. The concept of Victoria 2 is exactly what I want in a game.īut in practice, the model of the economy doesn't function.
